AFAST
The Alternate Flight Aptitude Selection Test (AFAST) is designed to screen applicants for Army Aviation to insure that only highly motivated persons with the capabilities to succeed in flight school are accepted for the training. Individuals who score higher on the AFAST are generally more successful in flight training than those who score low.
The AFAST is a test that measures the aptitudes and characteristics that are necessary to become an Army aviator. It has 200 questions broken down into seven subtests. Each subtest has separate directions and time limits. The entire test normally takes approximately three hours to complete and scores will not be available for three to five working days. Each cadet will be provided a computer generated score sheet to keep for his or her records.

Successful completion of the AFAST is the first step in the process of becoming an Army aviator. Testing is conducted on campus and is focused on cadets going to the Leader Development and Assessment Course (LDAC). Freshmen and sophomore cadets are not encouraged to take the AFAST (except in the case of a transfer cadet who is scheduled to attend LDAC in the summer). Study guides are available at most major bookstores in the "reference" section under Military Flight Aptitude Test. The Army ROTC department has a limited number of study guides available on a first come, first serve basis.
Your application for flight training will be given further consideration only if your AFAST score is equal to or higher than the established cutoff score (90 point). Once you meet the cutoff score, you may NOT retest, so it is to your advantage to score as high as you can on this test on the first try. If you fail to achieve a qualifying score, you must wait six months before you can retest. If you fail to achieve a qualifying score on the retest you will not be authorized to take the test again.
The AFAST is normally offered once each semester by announcement in ROTC class and flyers posted in classrooms.
