CROSS ENROLLMENT

Charleston Southern University and the Medical University of South Carolina offer students the opportunity to enroll in an Army ROTC program through an agreement with the established ROTC unit at The Citadel. The program is voluntary and open to all students who meet the character, citizenship, age, medical and physical requirements for military service. The program also offers competitive scholarships.

Students will take Army ROTC classes at their home campus or on the Citadel campus. The first two years of ROTC instruction carry no commitment and anyone can enroll to learn basic military skills, fundamentals of leadership, and to start the groundwork toward becoming an Army leader.

As a junior, you have two options with the Army ROTC Program:

1.  If you completed the 4 basic courses during your freshman and sophomore year, you can choose to enroll in the Advanced Courses and pursue a career as an Army Lieutenant on active duty, the Army Reserve, or Army National Guard. You will continue to have classes your junior and senior year and will conduct a weekly leadership lab and physical fitness training. You will be contracted in the Army, Army Reserve, or National Guard and will draw a monthly stipend of $450 dollars as a junior and $500 as a senior.

2.  If you did not complete the Basic courses, you may elect to attend the Leader’s Training Course before your junior year of college. LTC is four weeks of intense classroom and field training held in the summer at Fort Knox, KY. This course is an accelerated version of the two years of leadership development training and is substituted for the Basic Courses.  By transforming yourself through this rigorous training, you will qualify for enrollment in Advanced Army ROTC on campus—provided you have two years of college remaining.  Upon LTC completion, you will be contract to be an Officer in the Army, Army Reserve, or National Guard and will draw a monthly stipend of $450 dollars as a junior and $500 as a senior.

Eligibilty for contracting in the Army:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be between 17 and 25 years old.
  • Be enrolled in college full time in pursuit of a baccalaureate or advanced degree and have at least two years of school remaining.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Meet military medical qualification standards.
  • Have no civil convictions (unless waiver is approved).
  • Have no more than three dependents (unless waiver is approved).
