ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

There is an excellent opportunity for you to gain financial assistance and leadership experience while obtaining your college degree through the National Guard.

National Guard SMP:
You may take advantage of a program that will allow you to participate in ROTC and enlist in the Army National Guard at the same time. This program is
called the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP), and it means that while you're still in college you can gain valuable experience and earn extra income.
You'll be paid at the rate of at least a Sergeant (E-5) for your Guard service, and you'll receive the ROTC Advanced Course allowance as well.

You'll serve as an officer trainee in a Guard unit and perform duties that commensurate with the grade of Second Lieutenant. And once you are graduated and commissioned, you may continue your military service with your unit or apply for active duty in the US Army. While you are in the Guard you will receive a lot
of valuable benefits, such as the Montgomery G.I. Bill that provides up to $17,136 for college.

SMP Requirements:
You must be enlisted in the National Guard
Provide the SMP agreement to The Army ROTC Administrative Department at The Citadel

GRFD:
Another program that you may be interested in is the Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD). This means that you will be guaranteed a slot in the
National Guard. This is provided that you have an SMP agreement with your current unit to start the GRFD process.
