Trained as a medievalist at Duke University, David Allen teaches courses on medieval literature, the English language, and literature and leadership. Together with Robert A. White, he has edited three essay collections on medieval and Renaissance literature for the University of Delaware Press. He has been Head of the Department since 2008. He is also the department's coordinator for the Leadership Studies minor. In 2005 he received a Governor's Distinguished Professor award and was a finalist for the South Carolina Professor of the Year.
