Activity of the Committee

• Initial action was initiated by Mei Chen – call for nominations to chair the committee. Election was held via email – on 23 September 2000 committee was notified that John Murden had been elected chair.
• The committee met on 7 December 2000 to discuss the procedures for developing recommendation to the Deans for sabbatical awards. The consensus was to use the same process as the previous academic year.
• Members of the committee would review each of the proposals and provide a rank ordered list of their top five proposals.

• The rankings would then be used to assign points based on placement. The total points awarded would determine the final order of the proposals on the list provided to the deans
• Additional discussion was held on how to address any question about specific proposals concluded with the recommendation that reviewers should contact the departmental representative and/or the proposal writer directly.
• After all discussion, the proposals were distributed to the members of the committee.
• Four members of the committee were replaced when it came to light they were not yet eligible to serve. Materials were passed to the replacements.
• The composite ranking list was sent to Dean Ozment on Thursday 18 January 2001.
• Notification of the sabbatical awards for 2001-2001 was transmitted to the committee that one year sabbaticals had been awarded to:
  Margaret Francel, Spencer Hurd, and Peter Mailloux
  and a one semester sabbatical had been granted to:
  Richard Porcher
