Prof. Barrett graduated from The Citadel in 1968 with honors and a degree in Modern Languages (German). He was also a Distinguished Military Graduate. He is a retired Brigadier General in the Army Reserve.

He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts and had a Fulbright Scholarship to Germany for dissertation research.

Barrett is the author of Operation Albion: The German Conquest of the Baltic Islands (Indiana U., 2008).

He teaches Hitler and National Socialism, World War I, Aviation and Airpower, and Western Civilization. In 2003 he went to the University of Georgia for training in Geography. He now offers courses in that discipline.
