The Department of Health, Exercise and Sport Science (HESS) recommends either a 6.2-mile Stationary Bike Ergometer or 800-yard Swim as alternate events to the timed two-mile run for testing of cardio respiratory fitness. Point of contact for testing is Ryan Lang-Intramural Director, and both he, ICRA staff, and HESS staff are available to administer the alternate test. Referral for alternate testing should come via Cadet Operations in Commandant’s Office and the cadet chain of command i.e. athletic officer. A note clearly authorizing the alternate PT test in lieu of the run must come from Sports Medicine, The Citadel Infirmary, or an outside physician and must accompany you to your initial consult with Ryan Lang. If you have obtained the proper authorization, please email Mr. Lang at : Ryan.Lang@citadel.edu
The standards outlined in the current Army FM 21-20, “Physical Fitness Training,” are used as The Citadel’s standard for the 6.2-mile Stationary Bike Ergometer and 800-yard Swim. CPFT scoring with alternate testing is on a pass or fail basis. Cadets who do push-up and sit-up events, but who take a bike or swim test are not awarded performance points.
