The college is ranked No. 2 for top public universities in the South offering up to master's degree, and for the fifth straight year the School of Engineering has ranked among the top 50 in the country. This year the school is ranked 30th. Engineering students are among the most highly recruited students at The Citadel. There are approximately 400 enrolled in the civil and electrical engineering programs. "It is gratifying to see external, independent sources rate a Citadel education as outstanding," said Maj. Gen. John S. Grinalds, president of the college. "The real measure of a Citadel education, however, lies with the achievement of our graduates. Citadel alumni hold top positions in business, government, the military and in the professions and we are extremely proud of their successes." U.S.News & World Report also ranked The Military College of South Carolina: No. 8 for best value in the South among universities with up to master's programs.
