The Citadel Post Office is the main delivery point on campus for independent couriers such as Federal Express (FedEx), AirborneExpress and DHL. These couriers usually arrive on campus by 10:30 a.m. each weekday and notices are put in MSC boxes soon afterward.
United Parcel Service (UPS) is the only independent courier that does not deliver directly to the Post Office. All UPS packages are delivered to the Central Supply Warehouse and must be picked up there. Individuals receive a blue package notification slip to let you know you have a UPS delivery.
We do not provide outgoing services for any of these companies since we are a USPS contract station. However, you may call these companies individually to schedule pick-ups and you are allowed to leave your outgoing parcels at The Citadel Post Office for courier pick-up once arrangements have been made. Also, FedEx and UPS have drop boxes located on campus by the Main Gate and Public Safety. Supplies of envelopes and labels are located at each box for your convenience. These drop boxes are checked each evening between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Independent Courier Services -- Frequently Asked Questions
| FAQ: |
| Q: What time do courier services usually arrive on campus? |
A: Generally, most couriers arrive on campus by 10:30 a.m. each day. Ground shipments can be delivered as late as 4:30 p.m. each day.
| Q: How will I know if I have a package at the Post Office?
A: You will receive a "salmon" colored package notification slip in your MSC box. Due to the high volume of packages, we do not call each recipient.
| Q: How can I get my package delivered straight to my department?
A: We have attempted to work with each courier service on this issue. Couriers are in the business to expedite their packages. Therefore, they try to have one central drop-off point per location. The Citadel Post Office is the main drop-off point on campus. In order to get them to deliver it directly to you, you need to have the package addressed "specifically" to your Department, your Building and your Room #, AND the sender should state on the mailing label to have it delivered to that Building. Our staff makes every effort to check each address on these incoming packages and let the couriers know they need to deliver it directly to that building and room #. Please be aware that sometimes in doing this, that the package may not be delivered directly to you by the courier service until later on that day.
| Q: How is my department charged for Independent Couriers?
A: Most courier services will be glad to accept a check, a PO number, or bill to your account number. If you are not sure your department has an account number, call the courier company you wish to do business with and they will readily help you with your request. Courier companies usually send an invoice each month for billing purposes.
