The Arland D. Williams, Jr., Endowed Professorship
in Heroism
The Arland D. Williams, Jr., Endowed Professorship in Heroism is an endowed
professorship in the Department of Psychology. This professorship commemorates
Mr. Williams, a national hero, who sacrificed his life saving others in
the fatal crash of an airplane in Washington, D.C. This professorship has
been held in the past by Dr. Oliver D. Bowman. Currently, Dr. P. Michael
Politano holds this endowed chair.
Teaching Awards and Honors
Conway Saylor was named Teacher of the Year in 1997 by the South Carolina
Psychological Association. This state-wide award recognizes superlative
teaching of psychology at the university level.
Julie Lipovsky was awarded the Self Award for Excellence in Teaching at
The Citadel in 1997. The Self Award for Excellence in Teaching is given
to professors who exhibit superlative teaching at the graduate level at
the Citadel.
