The Citadel Board of Visitors is composed of eleven graduates of the college:
seven elected by joint vote of the South Carolina General Assembly, three elected
by alumni (Citadel Alumni Association) and one appointed by the governor. All
members serve six-year terms, with the governor's appointee term coinciding with
the governor's term.
All elected terms begin on the first day of July and end on the last day of
June, provided that each incumbent shall be entitled to hold office until his/her
successor is duly elected.
The Board of Visitors elects the chairman and vice chairman for one four-year
term. The Board of Visitors may elect a secretary who is not a member of the
Board and the term of office will coincide with that of the chairman. The secretary
may be re-elected without limitation.
