Cadet Computing

Up-to-date news and documentation. For the most up-to-date Citadel computing news, status reports, documentation, contact information, and other resources, please visit the Cadets section of The Citadel's Information Technology Services web site.

Computer Labs and Multimedia Equipment. The Citadel provides its cadets superior computing resources, including a dozen computer labs located in classroom buildings and a small lab in each of the barracks. All labs are equipped with Gateway PCs and laser printers. There is no charge for using computer lab services, including printing. The college also has several multimedia presentation classrooms with large-screen video projection systems. The Office of Multimedia Services helps cadets with graphics, computer presentations, and video projects.

Recommended Hardware. Cadets are encouraged to bring a computer (preferably a Gateway PC) for use in their rooms, and more than 90 percent do. The recommended minimum computer configuration and other computer recommendations are listed on the Citadel ITS web site.

Recommended Software. The college recommends that cadets purchase Microsoft Office Professional software. This package includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, all of which are widely used at The Citadel. Cadets can save money and time by ordering a Gateway PC that has the academic version of Office Professional software already installed.

Networking. Every cadet is provided a direct connection to Citnet and the Internet. There is no charge for this service. The Department of Information Technology Services provides repair services for Gateway computers and will help cadets connect other Windows-compatible PCs to Citnet.

Email. All cadets are provided a Citadel email address, regardless of whether they have a computer in their room. Citadel email may be checked using the DawgMail email service.
