Admission Requirements
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the College Transfer Program at The Citadel, students must meet the following requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 30 credit hours completed prior to enrollment
- Minimum 2.0 GPA required for admission
The Citadel will evaluate your transcripts to determine which credits are eligible for transfer into our program.
Please note: These are the minimum requirements for admission, and exceptions are rare. For any questions regarding these requirements, contact the CGC at cgc@citadel.edu or 843-953-5089.
General Education Requirements
Students with an associate’s degree from a South Carolina technical college may need additional general education courses to complete a four-year degree. These courses can be taken at:
- Trident Technical College
- Another accredited college or university (accepted into the degree completion program)
The Citadel offers a limited number of general education classes during the summer. Students in Business and Criminal Justice programs may take major courses at The Citadel while completing general education requirements at another institution.
For more detailed information about courses specific to your program of study, please consult the transfer college program advisor or director. You can also reference the transfer program page, which outlines the courses needed to fulfill general education requirements.
Admission Process
To be considered for admission to the College Transfer Program, you must provide the following information to CGC:
- Completed Application
- Official transcript from each college you have attended
- Supplemental documents if applicable, such as a questionnaire or letter of intent (based on specific program requirements)
For more information, please visit our Applying to the College Transfer Program page.
Veteran Students
Veterans who do not meet the required prerequisites may be eligible for the Non-Cadet Veterans Day Program. Contact CGC at 843-953-5089 or cgc@citadel.edu for more information.
Change of Program from Cadet Day to Evening/Online
- SCC Cadet’s may not transfer into any College Transfer Program (evening or online undergraduate programs) directly from the Corps of Cadets.
- Cadets must sit out a minimum of one full academic year – Fall, Spring, and Summer terms – from their last term of enrollment at The Citadel as a Cadet before enrolling as a student in the College Transfer Program.
- Cadets must be in good standing with the Corps to be eligible for transfer into an undergraduate evening or online degree program.
Note: Returning or previously enrolled undergraduate students do not need to submit a new application. Instead, they must complete a readmission form through the Registrar’s Office.
Citadel Deferral Policy
Students who meet all admission requirements for the College Transfer Program may defer their entry term for up to one year. However, if a new entry term is requested that is more than one year from the original, the student must reapply and go through the admissions process again.
Please follow the curriculum in the catalog for your new entry term regarding academic policy and graduation requirements. To request a deferral, contact CGC at 843-953-5089 or cgc@citadel.edu.
