campus wide shortly after the start of the new academic year. Please contact

Relay South Carolina (RSC) is a free service that provides full telephone accessibility to people who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind, and speech-disabled. This service allows text-telephone (TTY) users to communicate with standard telephone users through specially trained relay operators.
Calls can be made to anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no restrictions on the number, length, or type of call. All calls are strictly confidential and no records of any conversations are maintained.
Anyone who wishes to use RSC simply dials the toll free relay number to connect with a communication assistant. The communication assistant will dial the requested number and relay the conversation, word for word, between the two callers.
A useful RSC feature is 7-1-1. It is a telephone relay number that connects standard (voice) telephone users with deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind and/or speech-disabled people who use text telephones (TTYs). Relay users can now simply dial 7-1-1 to connect with Relay South Carolina. This allows easier access, particularly for less experienced relay users.
Please note: 7-1-1 is NOT an emergency number and should not be confused
with 9-1-1.
If you use a TTY and cannot obtain emergency services on 9-1-1, you may
call 7-1-1 and tell the communication assistant you have an emergency situation.
The operator will then voice your emergency to the South Carolina State
Police.
TTY - Text Telephones
The Citadel has TTYs available for use by students, faculty and staff. The locations and numbers of these devices are as follows:
Public Safety: 3-5119 (available 24 x 7)
Telecommunications: 3-5100
TTY stands for Text Telephone. It lets people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired use the telephone to communicate, by allowing them to type messages back and forth to one another instead of talking and listening. Sometimes, it is also called a TDD or Telecommunication Device for the Deaf. TTY is the more widely accepted term however TTYs are used by many people - not just people who are deaf.
If you don't have a TTY, you can still call a person who is deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired by using Relay South Carolina (RSC). With RSC, a special operator types whatever you say so that the person you are calling can read your words on his or her TTY display. He or she will type back a response, which the RSC operator will read aloud for you to hear over the phone.
Toll free RSC services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For

faculty and staff at The Citadel. We provide campus users information on
telephone services and features.
