Welcome to the Department of Accounting and Finance!
The Department of Accounting and Finance is part of the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business. Majors include a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting) and a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration (Finance).
Major in Accounting
You will study financial and managerial accounting topics, technology and accounting analytics, audit, tax, and commercial law; courses designed to provide the foundation for numerous successful careers. We have on-campus groups including Beta Alpha Psi and the Accounting Club. The job market includes international consulting firms, accounting firms, banks, the military, and government. This degree fulfills many of the academic requirements for well-recognized accounting certifications [1] related to countless career choices. Each year, several students go to graduate school to study for professional licensures, such as the CPA and CMA.
Major in Finance
The finance major is designed to prepare students for opportunities with financial institutions, investment management firms, hedge funds, certified financial planners, and corporate finance. Students learn from practical experience in managing real money in The Citadel Student-Managed Investment Fund. Classes include investment management, risk management, and asset valuation. Finance majors will learn to interpret and analyze accounting, economic, and financial data to facilitate decision making. Students land jobs at firms such as JP Morgan, Duke Energy, Chase, and a variety of private equity firms, including opportunities in London, Madrid, and NYC.
Thank you for your interest in the Department of Accounting and Finance. We look forward to providing you with the skills needed for a successful career in the financial services industry. If you have further questions, please contact Dr. Wes Jones, department head, at jonesw1@citadel.edu.
