Bio
Paul Meeks is a Professor of Practice in the Baker School. He had been an adjunct finance or accounting faculty at three universities since 2005 including the College of Charleston, The Citadel and Western Washington University. He has taught or teaches Personal Finance, Corporate Finance, Investments, Banking, Financial Accounting, or Sustainability/Environmental Accounting. He has won an award for his instruction. Meeks also has published an e-textbook Practical Personal Finance for the Internet Era through Great River Learning. At The Citadel, he also will supervise the Student Managed Investment Fund.
In addition to being an academic, Meeks is a 30+-year institutional equity analyst or portfolio manager. He is best known for investing in technology stocks. For Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (now BlackRock) he started and managed technology-oriented mutual funds with a total $8 billion under management. Currently, he manages separate accounts for clients of Independent Solutions Wealth Management, which is a New York-based registered investment advisor with $750 million under management.
Since the mid-1990s, Meeks has been on air on CNBC about once a week to “talk tech.” He also appears on other business news outlets. Off-camera, Meeks also writes about technology trends and companies and publishes a bi-weekly business column for the Charleston Mercury.
Meeks earned bachelor’s degrees from Williams College. He followed with a MM (MBA) from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University. Since then, he has added his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) credentials.
