Bio
Dr. Stacey R. Nutt is teaching financial accounting and business finance. He began his career as a professor of accounting at Virginia Tech. From there, he worked for a variety of firms in the asset management industry, where he held roles such as Director of R&D, Lead Portfolio Manager, and Managing Director.
After founding ClariVest Asset Management in March 2006, Nutt and his partners built the startup into an approximate $10 billion AUA institutional money manager based in San Diego, California. The investment philosophy is based on his academic work in behavioral finance in the 1990s. As CEO and Chief Investment Officer, he had a variety of responsibilities within the firm and led their growth for more than a decade. Dr. Nutt and his partners recently sold their stakes to Raymond James Financial and he transitioned out of his leadership roles – remaining involved with the firm at an advisory level only. Over the last year and a half, Dr. Nutt has re-started his academic career, teaching as a part-time adjunct at College of Charleston 2018/19, and now full-time at The Citadel.
Dr. Nutt received a bachelor’s degree in Business from Oral Roberts University, as well as a Master of Science in Management and a Doctorate in Philosophy with an emphasis in Accounting from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
