Bio
Cynthia E. Bolt is Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance and Professor of Accounting in the Baker School of Business. Her teaching interests include introductory accounting, tax, and auditing. She was honored as the recipient of the 2018 and 2020 “Faculty of the Year” award for the BSB day program, consisting of cadets and veteran students. Prior to joining The Citadel in 1990, Cindy worked in the area of tax and audit at Ernst and Young in Charleston and at Deloitte Touche in Columbia, SC.
Professor Bolt’s scholarly activities include publications and presentations related to tax, ethics, accounting education, and the impact of research on practice. She is the author of “Highlights of Accounting Research,” a series of feature articles for the Journal of Accountancy, designed to summarize academic research for use by practicing CPAs. She received the Teaching Learning & Curriculum (TLC) best paper award for the Southeast and Midwest regions in 2012 and 2015, respectively. In 2017 she received the article of the year from The Tax Adviser.
She served the American Accounting Association’s Conference on Teaching & Learning Accounting for 13 years, two years as co-chair. Her work on the nationally-organized task force on the Impact of Accounting Research on Practice concluded with a publication in Accounting Horizons titled “The Impact of Academic Accounting Research on Professional Practice: An Analysis by the AAA Research Impact Task Force” which received the 2010 Accounting Horizon’s Best Paper award.
