Leading Traditions
As a central part of The Citadel’s time-honored traditions, the Regimental Band and Pipe Band play a vital role in the grand military parades that take place on the Charleston, S.C. campus. These parades, steeped in history and pageantry, showcase the precision and discipline of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and the Regimental Band’s stirring performances elevate these events to new heights.
On scheduled Fridays during the academic year, The Citadel Regimental Band leads the Corps of Cadets as they march in perfect unison across Summerall Field, performing anthems, marches and ceremonial music that reflects the proud heritage of the military college. The music not only accompanies the cadence of the march but also inspires pride in the cadets, alumni and spectators alike.
The Citadel Regimental Band’s presence during these parades symbolizes the college’s commitment to excellence in leadership, service and discipline.
Representing The Citadel, South Carolina and the United States, the Band displayed the highest level of professionalism and poise at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the world’s most renowned military music festival.
The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes will proudly represent the United States for the fourth time as the country’s designated military band.
Regimental Band Director Lt. Col. Timothy Smith knew he wanted to compose something original for the band when inspiration struck – The Citadel was getting ready to celebrate 100 Years on the Ashley.
