The Baker Coaching Program (BCP) Mission Statement
The Baker Coaching Program (BCP) will support student professional development while augmenting student academic performance to promote career success. This will be accomplished through academic and career advisement by dedicated resources while adhering to the Citadel’s core values of honor, duty and respect.
While pursuing academic excellence, students are tackling huge questions – “What career field is best for me? What do I need to do to get a job? Where should I start?”
These questions and more are why we are proud to present our business students with the BCP.
The Baker School of Business recognizes that students need to prepare for life after graduation both in and out of the classroom. To help students with that, BCP delivers two levels of coaching to students:
Level 1 (Group opportunities):
The first level is a bit lower “touch” and will include group events and opportunities. These include such things as community business & professional development activities, guest speakers, and roundtable discussions. Critically — such events require less commitment from both students and coaches – and are thus more appropriate for younger students, as well as a broad audience that may be less committed to the program.
Level 2 (One-to-One Coaching):
As students progress through their academic career, they will be invited to participate at the next level, with their own personal coach. This level is reserved for those who are willing to make a commitment to a coaching relationship. We believe this level is best to make available to junior and senior students who are approaching the point of moving into a career and likely to appreciate their need for the service.
Coaches and guest presenters in the BCP programs are current or former professionals with experience covering the spectrum of our business areas of study. BCP matches the Level 2 students with coaches who have specific experience and expertise in their field of interest.
Two-Tiered Model
With this two-tiered model the BCP aims to support business students throughout their academic careers as they mature and prepare for graduation.
