Programs are small, group activities, which are highly interactive and self-reflective, with content developed to meet the needs of a specific audience, group or cohort.
Programs may include:
- Alcohol Expectancies* is an evidenced based, best practice program designed to help college students identify the differences between what they expect from consuming alcohol and the actual effects of consuming alcohol.
- Alcohol Jeopardy is a fun, educational and interactive competition based upon the popular game show.
- Alcohol Skills Training Program* is an evidenced based, best practice program designed to help college students moderate their drinking behavior. It is considered the group version of the BASICS one-on-one intervention. Participants who complete this program receive a “Certificate of Attendance.”
- Beyond Hangovers: Alcohol’s Impact on Health* is an awareness program based upon the current science of addiction. It includes current methodology and theory in medicine, psychology, and pharmacology. The presentation format is traditional lecture with limited group interaction.
- CHOICES is an evidenced based, best practice program that engages college students in a self-reflective process to help them moderate their drinking behavior. Participants who complete this program receive a “Certificate of Attendance.”
- Faculty & Staff Training is tailored specifically to the unique needs of faculty and staff. The program content includes: (1) an overview of CADIC, (2) current trends in college alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, (3) signs of substance misuse and (4) how to refer cadets and students for evaluation and treatment both on and off campus.
- IMPACT Marijuana* is designed to engage college students in a self-reflective process about marijuana use. Participants who complete this program receive a “Certificate of Attendance.”
- Life Development Skills* is a developing, evidenced based program designed to reduce the risk for substance misuse by increasing health and wellness protective factors. It includes interactive exercises on (1) nutrition, (2) exercise, (3) communication and conflict resolution, (4) sleep, (5) stress/time management and (6) career planning. (NOTE: Facilitators of this program work closely with staff in Career Services in the development and facilitation of the career-planning segment.)
- Prime for Life is an evidenced based, best practice program designed to teach individuals with known risk factors for substance dependence how to moderate their alcohol use. Participants who complete this program receive a “Certificate of Attendance.”
- Quit the Spit/Trash the Ash* This two-part, Quit the Spit (Part One) and Trash the Ash (Part Two) Program is an interactive tobacco prevention program that includes information on the health consequences of long-term tobacco use and information on tobacco cessation. Tobacco cessation samples (e.g., gum, patch) are often provided during this program. Participants who complete this program receive a “Certificate of Attendance.”
- Rethink Drinking is an interactive, low-risk drinking program developed by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
- Rules of the Road 1.0is an interactive, alcohol awareness program that focuses on low-risk drinking options, The Citadel Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Policy and discipline procedures for alcohol, tobacco and other drug violations.
- Rules of the Road 2.0 is an interactive alcohol awareness program that reinforces the campus low-risk drinking message and engages participants in role playing scenarios about alcohol, tobacco and other drug policy violations.
- Self-Efficacy Skills Program* is designed to empower individuals to make informed choices about alcohol or drug use. This program relies heavily on role playing scenarios.
- The Psychology of Addiction* is an awareness program based upon current social science research. It includes information on risk and protective factors that contribute to the development of a substance use disorder and explores the science related to an “addictive personality.”
- TIPS (Training for Intervention) is designed to help students make healthy choices when faced with difficult decisions about alcohol use. Through role-play and group interaction, participants develop skill sets to identify and intervene in high-risk alcohol situations. Participants who complete this 90-minute program are eligible for certification.
