Earn your B.A. in Chemistry
The Chemistry B.A. is intended for students who wish to combine a technical background in chemistry with other career goals. For example, the B.A. in Chemistry is ideal for students who wish to teach or those who wish to pursue advanced education in patent-law, business, chemical engineering, or health-sciences (i.e., pre-medical, pre-pharmacy, pre-dental). Students in the BA program may also select from one of our career-focused concentrations (Clinical Chemistry or Environmental Chemistry).
Student Learning Objectives
Students majoring in chemistry with the B.A. degree will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the general theories of Chemistry in four of the five major areas: analytical, inorganic, organic, physical, and biochemistry
- Apply quantitative skills in solving complex problems
- Write effectively on chemical topics using correct grammar and a style appropriate for the discipline of chemistry
- Speak effectively on chemical topics in a format appropriate for the discipline of chemistry
The primary mission of the Department of Chemistry is to offer training, courses, and degrees in the Chemical Sciences to Citadel students, including those fulfilling core curriculum requirements and undergraduate Chemistry majors. The faculty in our department contribute to the discipline through scholarly and professional activity, and also to the community via participation in various service and outreach activities.
