Chemistry – Environmental Concentration Degree
The Citadel’s Chemistry, B.A. with an Environmental Concentration prepares those interested in becoming an environmental chemist, studying the chemistry that occurs in natural spaces. This degree focuses on a specialized area of Analytical Chemistry, requiring a solid understanding of the fate of chemical species in the air, soil, and water and how these chemicals move through the environment and biosphere.
What does an Environmental Chemist do?
After earning this degree, one may serve as a compliance officer in industry, a regulatory specialist in state and federal labs, an environmental consultant for emerging technologies, or conduct environmental research.
Student Learning Outcomes
Students majoring in chemistry with the B.A – Environmental Concentration degree will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the general theories of Chemistry in four of the five major areas: analytical, inorganic, organic, physical, and biochemistry
- Apply quantitative skills in solving complex problems
- Write effectively on chemical topics using correct grammar and a style appropriate for the discipline
- Speak effectively on chemical topics in a format appropriate for the discipline
- Apply their knowledge of chemical analysis, and environmental science to solve environmentally relevant questions
