Chemistry Research
The department continues to encourage students to pursue research through working with faculty in the summer as well as for their senior research thesis. Research provides the opportunity for the student to experience the excitement (and sometimes frustration) of science learned in their courses. Students working with faculty during the summer may receive small stipends from the Jane Allan and Samuel Adam Wideman Student Research Fellowship. In addition, there are opportunities for students to present their results at regional and/or national meetings. To learn more about specific faculty research interests, please visit their individual pages.
A senior thesis is required of all chemistry majors. For the B.A. major, it can be the preparation of a review article on some suitable chemical topic under the direction of a faculty committee. For the B. S. major, an experimental research project is required. This involves a research project on an approved chemical topic under the direction of a faculty committee.
