The Citadel in D.C. Semester Program
Program Overview
The Citadel in D.C. summer program is a semester-long domestic program in Washington, D.C. with an internship component for Political Science and Intelligence and Security Studies majors. Students live in DC at Washington Intern Student Housing, intern at various locations around the city and take an interdisciplinary academic course. Students will take a full course load of INTL courses that will allow for PSCI course substitutions as necessary to fulfill the student’s course requirements.
The courses in this program are taught in-person by a Citadel professor and allow students the opportunity to experience D.C. as their classroom. Students may earn up to 15 academic credits during the semester; 9 credits of academic courses; 3 credit hours towards an internship; option to take 3 additional hours of coursework through a remote online course offered at the Citadel.

Program highlights from the spring 2022 semester include visits to:
- The U.S. Institute of Peace building to hear from the Vice President of the Africa Center, Dr. Joseph Sany
- The American Enterprise Institute to tour the facility and hear a briefing from Kathrine Zimmerman, an expert on Salafi-Jihadism
- TECRO (Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States)
- Embassy of Georgia
Program Details
Course Offerings (subject to change):
- INTL 465: Intelligence in the U.S. (3 credit hours)
- INTL 465: Intelligence Internationally (3 credit hours)
- INTL 465: Foreign Policy/Homeland Security (3 credit hours)
- PSCI 499/INTL 464: Internship in PSCI/INTL (3 credit hours)
The Citadel in D.C. semester program is part of the Citadel Global Scholars study abroad/study away program model. Students pay their tuition and fees and receive:
- Tuition for 12-15 credit hours of coursework
- Housing in Washington, D.C.
- Round-trip flight to and from Washington, D.C.
- A MetroCard with a monthly allowance
Students will be responsible for their own meals and personal expenses. Fees will be discounted accordingly in order to reflect a meal allowance.
