Colonel Louis S. LeTellier, SCM (1953-1954, Acting)
Colonel LeTellier was born on February 8, 1887 near Charlottesville, Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia and received a Master of Science degree from the College of Charleston. He joined The Citadel faculty in 1908 as Professor of Drawing and in 1920 became the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering.
In 1939, The Citadel’s Engineering Department was given accreditation by the Engineers Council for Professional Development. From 1937-1954, Col. Letellier had the additional duties of supervisor and inspector of all construction work on the campus. He also held numerous positions in national and state engineering organizations.
Colonel Letellier was appointed Acting President of The Citadel upon the retirement of General Charles P. Summerall in 1953. When General Mark W. Clark became President, Col. LeTellier was appointed Dean of the college. He retired May 1, 1954 ending forty-six years of service to the college. He died July 2, 1975
