The Citadel understands that students may take courses at another accredited college and will want to transfer the credit to The Citadel. It is important that students go through the appropriate steps and submit the required forms prior to taking the transfer credits. Undergraduate Students
A degree candidate at The Citadel Military college who wishes to receive Citadel credit for courses at another institution must complete the appropriate form located on the Forms page.
Please submit a Transient Permission Form to the Office of the Registrar before taking courses at another college. Current students or seniors completing their final courses for graduation at another institution must fill out this form. The Citadel does not approve these forms for individuals that are not current Citadel students and reserves the right to adjust course equivalencies as necessary.
The Transfer Credit Policy contains course(s) accepted for transfer credit at The Citadel. Please read the policy before completing outside courses. Permission confirms that the course has an equivalent approved by The Citadel faculty. However, permission to take the requested course(s) is not confirmation of how/if the course(s) will fulfill degree requirements.
The approved Citadel equivalent can be verified on the student’s degree plan. Also, confirm the course is not a repeat of earned credit by visiting Transfer Credit Policy. Acceptance of credit for an approved transfer course via the Transient Permission Form will become final when the Registrar’s office receives an official transcript of the student’s record. The transcript must be sent by the accredited institution where the course was taken.

Students wanting evaluation of their completed courses from an accredited institution should send their official transcripts directly to The Citadel Registrar’s Office. All dual credit students can request their college transcript. The credits are evaluated after official transcripts are received. Students interested in seeing what future or completed courses may transfer to the Citadel, and their associated equivalencies should refer to the Resources for Transferring Courses section below.
Unaccepted documents include unofficial transcripts, hand-delivered transcripts, and grade reports. Transcripts must come directly from the originating institution.

Graduate Students
The Citadel Graduate College permits up to 12 hours of transfer credit from other accredited higher education institutions. The American Council on Education recommend military education and training for credit. The Citadel permits this for credit. Some programs allow fewer hours of transfer credit. Requirements need to be reviewed for the maximum number of credit hours that can be transferred for specific programs.
Graduate students wanting graduate credit to be considered must complete the appropriate form. Submit the graduate Transfer Credit Approval form after The Citadel receives your official transcripts.
Students should also review the Transfer Credit Policy and/or their academic catalog for full details. Credits are evaluated when the official transcript is received. Documents not accepted for credit review includes unofficial transcripts, hand-delivered transcripts, and grade reports. Transcripts must come directly from the originating institution.

Resources for Transferring Courses
Students who have taken or are thinking about taking courses at another institution should utilize the website www.collegetransfer.net (please click the direct link for a full user-friendly webpage). This tool allows students to search for course equivalencies at colleges and universities both inside and outside of the state of South Carolina.
Courses with The Citadel equivalents listed on www.collegetransfer.net or either widget below do not require department approval on the Transient Permission Form. Students must get a copy of the originating college’s course description for courses not pre-approved for transfer. The correct department head at The Citadel has to approve the course. The description is located in that school’s course catalogue. Submit this form to the Registrar’s Office for final approval. You will get a copy to keep and/or submit to the other college/university.
