Counselor Education Maestros Program
General Information and Eligibility Requirements
The Counselor Education Division aims to create a “Counselor Education Maestros Program” (CEMP), in development of the next generation of professional school counselors. The purpose of the program is to increase the number of diverse professional school counselors in P-12 schools by supporting the efforts of young minority men and women to earn their graduate degrees. Born out of a need to mentor and support P-12 students’ identities, the Program would expand the diverse (gender and ethnicity) representation of professional school counselors throughout the Lowcountry. Eligibility for participation in this program is limited to minority cadets/vets who are in their junior or senior year from within the SCCC (South Carolina Corps of Cadets), daytime and evening programs.
Benefits of the Program
Scholarships will be provided to participants in their junior and senior year in support of the following goals:
- Becoming mentored toward a school counseling career path
- Gaining peer leadership skills
- Receiving financial support
- Participating in extra-curricular youth mentoring activities
