Dr. Sean Heuston
Dr. Tony N. Redd Distinguished Professor of English
Sean Heuston has been teaching at The Citadel since 2002 and is a recipient of the James A. Grimsley Undergraduate Teaching Award (The Citadel’s college-wide teaching award). His teaching and research interests include film, Southern literature, modern poetry, and Irish literature. He earned a B.A. in English from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; an M.A. in English from Stanford University; and a Ph.D. in English from Vanderbilt University.
Heuston’s book Modern Poetry and Ethnography: Yeats, Frost, Warren, Heaney, and the Poet as Anthropologist was named a Choice Distinguished Academic Title, and he is currently editing Approaches to Teaching the Poetry of Robert Frost for the Modern Language Association Press. He has published scholarly articles in journals such as College Teaching, Journal of American Studies, Mississippi Quarterly, Studies in Popular Culture, Film and History Annual, International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Notes and Queries. His work has led to interviews with media outlets such as Newsweek, Public Radio International, and the Post & Courier (Charleston, S.C.). Heuston established The Citadel’s Summer in London Program, directed the program for eighteen years, and has served as the faculty advisor to Bravo Company since 2002.
Research Interests: Film, Southern literature, Irish literature, and modern poetry.
