Bryan “Rick” Sargent
Visiting Instructor
Rick brings his 20+ years of being a medical illustrator and animator to The Citadel. Rick specializes in visual communication. His career began at The Hughston Sports Medicine Foundation where he worked with Dr. Jack Hughston, named the Father of Sports Medicine, and Hughston Clinic Fellows, to assist with research and publication. He was Art Director for award-winning publication and earned Award of Merit from the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons for his animation for Dr. Carlton Savory.
Rick’s career led him to start his own company, Sargent Illustration and Design, which serves as a visual communications provider for physicians, attorneys, and pharmaceuticals.
Rick’s is engaged in regional art community and his designs have received recognition by being asked to serve as Judge for the Southeastern Museum Conference, awarded Best in Drawing North Charleston Arts Fest and won Cooper River Bridge Run competition.
Rick’s teaching began at The Art Institute of Charleston where he taught design, illustration, and animation.
At The Citadel, Rick has worked to get the first Citadel-based art exhibitions in Charleston, developed research and art awareness with cadet entries into the Port Royal Sound Recycled Art Contest and is working to further showcase the symbiotic relationship between art and research with cadet work being displayed at Student Excellence Day
