Mission Statement:
The sport management program’s mission is to educate and cultivate strong-minded leaders to master sport for positive changes in our modern society.
Objectives:
The minor in sport management is designed to provide students the opportunity to learn about the unique role of sport in society, and to assist them in developing management skills in a wide range of the sport operations, such as sport events, facility management, administration and leadership abilities in sport organizations.
Competencies, Knowledge or Skills to be Achieved:
By completing the minor in sport management, students will acquire the essential knowledge and build the practical skills required for a competitive career in the business of sport. Examples of future career opportunities include interscholastic and intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sport organizations.
Structure of the Minor in Sport Management:
Required Courses: (9 credit hours)

- SMGT 202 Sport and Society
- SMGT 405 Sport Event Management: From Theory to Practice
Choose two electives from the list below: (6 credit hours)
- SMGT 301 Sport Governance and Politics
- SMGT 302 Sport Communication (ROTC Fulfillment)
- SMGT 303 Sport Facility and Risk Management
- SMGT 304 Sport Marketing
- SMGT 401 Introduction to Sport Law
- SMGT 402 Sport Promotion and Sales Management
- SMGT 404 Leadership in Sport Organizations (ROTC Fulfillment)
- EXSC 406 Directed Field Experience (permission of instructor required) (ROTC Fulfillment)
