Assistant Professor of Sport Management
Bio
Dr. Kwangho Park is an assistant professor for the Sport Management program in the Department of Health and Human Performance since the 2023 Fall semester. Prior to arriving at the Citadel, Dr. Park was a lead faculty member (assistant professor) for the sport management and leadership program in the Dahl School of Business at Viterbo University. He attained a Ph.D. in Sport Management from the Sorrel College of Business at Troy University in 2022 and has two master’s degrees in Sport Management from Indiana University Bloomington and Florida State University. He acquired a bachelor’s degree in Community Sports from Korea National Sport University, where student-athletes train to get gold medals in the Olympic Games and international sport competitions. Dr. Park’s research interests include technology adoption for the sport industry, sport video games, and sport diplomacy in international relations. Professionally, he has work experience as an instructor based on four sport instructor certifications (Ski / SCUBA Diving / Swimming / Taekwondo), as well as an internship in the event and facility management within the athletic department at Florida State University. Additionally, he was an infantry army officer for the Republic of Korea Army and ranked as a lieutenant from 2007 to 2010. Finally, he has attained the rank of captain in order to teach and assist cadets in their academic development at the Citadel.

Research Interests
Dr. Park’s research interests encompass the adoption of emerging technologies, such as Virtual Reality, in the sport industry, experimental studies on sport video games, as well as sport diplomacy within the context of international relations. He recently completed studies on the factors influencing the adoption of Virtual Reality for spectator sports and the effect of sport video game features (e.g., face-scanning technology) on sport consumer behaviors.
With his extensive academic and research background, he is competent in interdisciplinary collaboration with other fields. In the field of international relations, he has conducted research on the relationship between peace and UN resolution for the Olympic Truce, using a qualitative method. One of Dr. Park’s notable research strengths is his proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
