Earn Your M.S. Project Management Degree at The Citadel
The Master of Science in Project Management (MSPM) provides students with advanced instruction through a rigorous 30-hr curriculum focused on personal and organizational effectiveness, principled leadership, innovative analytical procedures and solutions to emerging technical resource issues. The program of study is tailored to equip professionals working in industry, governmental agencies, and business to achieve higher levels of effectiveness in managing and leading their organizations in project implementation and team-based, multi-disciplinary initiatives.
The program features 8-week courses, allowing students to start their studies in the Fall, Spring or Summer 1st 8-week term, offering flexibility for working professionals. Students can complete their project management degree online or in-person, and it is a STEM-designated graduate degree.
The program contains two core curriculum modules focusing on technical project management (4 courses) and principled leadership (2 courses), followed by a choice of emphasis tracks in the student’s area of interest (4 courses) to complete your project management degree.
Technical Project Management
This is a core component of the program comprised of a four-course series; overview of project management, project scheduling, quality management and operations. Upon completion, students earn a Graduate Certificate in Technical Program Management, representing twelve credit hours.
Principled Leadership
Leadership is a core component of the program that features a two-course progression in project manager leadership. Leadership development is essential for project and program managers. Courses will focus on leadership development in a project management context and applied leadership concepts that are proven to be successful.
Electives
In addition to the two core curriculum modules, students are required to complete 4 electives in courses they think beneficial to their career and professional development. Elective courses are available in Systems Engineering Management, Program Management, Leadership, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Cyber Security, Information Assurance, Computer Science, and Business. Students can choose from a variety of courses to meet their educational goals. Students may select four courses from a single elective area, or a total of four courses from several elective areas. The flexibility provided in electives is intended to support the career and professional needs of individual space.
Qualified non-degree seeking students are encouraged to benefit from the curriculum as follows:
- a source of transfer credits for students enrolled in online graduate programs
- continued professional development for practicing engineers or project managers
- enables professionals to obtain a graduate certificate in technical program management
- facilitates preparation for achieving Project Management Professional (PMP) certification by Project Management Institute (PMI).
Other students, with specific educational goals outside of the leadership and engineering areas, can coordinate with the MSPM faculty to schedule and complete optional elective courses.
I started the Master of Science in Project Management program at The Citadel to provide a higher quality life for my family by enhancing my professional career. The professors have a wealth of professional experience and are flexible with student’s personal and professional commitments. I am proud to say, after completing the program, I passed the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional (PMP) certification on the first attempt. This is a testament to the high-quality of The Citadel, the professors, and the program. I am confident the knowledge and skills I obtained from The Citadel will serve me well.
