Bio
J. Chris Lanning was born in Statesville, North Carolina where he remained until college. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He graduated from Cumberland School of Law in 2001. While in law school, he was a member of the Henry Upson Sims Moot Court Board and won the Donworth Freshman Moot Court Competition. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2005 and the United States District Court, District of South Carolina in 2006. He is a member of the South Carolina and Charleston County Bar Associations. He currently operates a solo law practice in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Mr. Lanning’s legal practice is a general practice and he handles various types of cases. He focuses on real estate law; personal injury; domestic law, including divorces, child custody/child support and adoptions; criminal law; and collection law, including foreclosures and obtaining and enforcing judgments. He was appointed as the Public Defender for the City of Goose Creek in 2009 and has participated in numerous trials defending the citizens of Goose Creek since his appointment.
Away from his legal practice, Mr. Lanning spends his time attending CrossFit classes, playing golf, watching Tar Heel basketball and spending time with his wife, Carrie, and sons, Jackson and Cade.
