Her career has encompassed many years in private industry, as well as in government. She has worked or consulted for over a dozen companies, including some very large ones such as Hallmark and the Williams Sonoma family of brands. Additionally, she has been part of the management team in several start-up companies, including one that appeared on Shark Tank and received an investment from Mark Cuban. Thus, she is very familiar with the organizational and managerial issues that arise in both very small and extremely large companies. She continues to consult in a number of industries, particularly educational services.
Whitteker is also very adept at navigating the intricacies of the government sector – especially in regard to mandates on business, particularly at the local level. She spent nearly a decade involved in the regulation and mitigation of growth issues in the fastest growing place in the nation: Clark County, Nevada (which includes Las Vegas). She has a very deep understanding of the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as the land-use issues that arise in a fast-growing local economy.
