Bio
Maria Aselage joined The Citadel faculty in January 2007. She currently teaches Principles of Marketing and Business Communications. She is also the chairperson of the BSB community service committee. In addition to teaching, Ms. Aselage owns and operates a communications consulting company.
Ms. Aselage has more than 30 years of experience in the communications field. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree from the University of Georgia in 1991 and an MBA from The Citadel in 2003.
Ms. Aselage is a former television news reporter and anchor. After leaving the news business in 1998, she created and worked in The Citadel’s Patricia McArver Public Speaking Lab. From 2002-2005, she served as communications director and media spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston. In May 2005, Ms. Aselage moved to the Jacksonville, Florida area where she accepted the position of Executive Vice President for the Clay County Chamber of Commerce. She moved back to Charleston in January 2007, started her company, and returned to The Citadel.
Ms. Aselage served on the Board of Camp Rise Above for ten years. The non-profit provides life-changing camp experiences to children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and challenges. Additionally, she received the College Transfer Program “Professor of the Year Award” in 2020 and 2022.
