Minor in Chinese
The minor in Chinese is a concentration of courses and academic experiences focused on Chinese language, literature, and culture. This minor is hosted by the Chinese Program in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, & Cultures.
Curriculum
To earn the minor in Chinese, students must complete 15 hours of course work (five courses). These five courses must be at a higher level than the courses that fulfill students’ language requirement in core curriculum. Course options include:
- CHIN 201-202 “Intermediate Chinese”
- CHIN 301-302 “Advanced Speaking, Reading, and Writing”
- CHIN 303 “Chinese Civilization”
- CHIN 307 “Business Chinese”
- *CHIN 450 “Undergraduate Seminar: Studies in Special Topics”
*CHIN 450 may be repeated provided that the subtitle is not duplicated. Topics taught since 2017 include:
- Contemporary Chinese Literature and Films
- Chinese Cinema
- Sinophone Cinemas
- Civic Values in China
- Banned in China
- Contemporary Taiwan through Media
Declaration of the Minor
Students who wish to earn the minor in Chinese must file the form of “Request a Minor” with the Director of The Chinese Program by the beginning of their junior year to declare the minor. This declaration can be filed as soon as students decide to minor.
Total Credit Hours Required
A total of fifteen credit hours is required to be completed at the Citadel, unless an exemption is given.
