Getting Started with Online Learning
To help you navigate your online courses effectively, we recommend utilizing the Student Resource Course in Canvas. This course provides valuable guidance on navigating Citadel Online, Canvas, and Zoom.
Essential Technology Requirements
At The Citadel, we utilize Canvas as our learning management system (LMS) to provide a seamless online learning experience. Below are the essential technology requirements and recommendations to ensure you can fully engage with your online courses. For login information, please visit the Canvas for Students page.
My.Citadel Portal
- Navigate to my.citadel.edu and login with your “username@nation.citadel.edu” and current password
- The portal grants easy access to your Microsoft 365 (email) , Canvas, CAS, and more!
For more information, please visit the ITS Quickstart Guide.
Required Hardware
- Laptop or Desktop: A Windows or Mac-based computer is required. While tablets and smartphones may work for some coursework, they are not suitable for all. For further details, see The Citadel Student Computer Recommendations.
- Microphone: Some online courses may require a microphone.
- Audio Playback: Speakers or headphones are necessary for audio playback.
- Web Camera: Required for certain courses.
The Citadel operates as a Microsoft campus, so it’s essential that your laptop is compatible with Office 365. While Windows laptops are preferred, Apple laptops are generally acceptable for most courses. Be aware that Apple computers may sometimes have software compatibility issues.
Additional Online Learning Information
- Web Browser Information: Please only use one of the supported browsers that has been tested and approved by Canvas.
- Pop-up Blockers: Canvas uses small browser windows to deliver requested content. Some pop-up blockers incorrectly interpret these small windows as pop-ups and block them. If you have installed a pop-up blocker, turn it off while using Canvas.
