Patrick R. Briggs was born in Sacramento CA, and he attended CSU – Sacramento, receiving a B.A. in Physics. Long interested in Astronomy, he entered the Space Physics program at the University of Kansas under the direction of Thomas Armstrong. There he worked on data analysis with the IMP 7 and 8 spacecraft, and helped to calibrate the LECP detector that still operates on the Voyager spacecraft. He received his Ph. D. in Physics (Space Physics).
An enduring love of teaching led him to The Citadel in 1981. He has enjoyed working with cadets and trying out new ideas in the classroom and the lab. After a long pause he is resuming research on particle composition in the solar wind, and he encourages students’ pursuit of knowledge as instructor of the Senior Research courses.
