Zucker Family School of Education associate professor leads South Carolina Counseling Association
Associate Professor Guy Ilagan was elected president of the South Carolina Counseling Association for the present term. SCCA is South Carolina’s state branch of the American Counseling Association. The organization supports a membership of more than 1,000 counselors and is committed to providing leadership, advocacy, and education that promotes the growth and development of professional counselors across various areas of human development. Ilagan teaches graduate students in the Counselor Education division of the Zucker Family School of Education. He is a licensed professional counselor and supervisor and National Board-certified counselor. For over 30 years, Ilagan has practiced counseling in a variety of community and educational settings. He has conducted and published studies on counselor effectiveness, counselor self-efficacy, suicide intervention and the mental health effects of wilderness backpacking. He has also presented his research at several international conferences and has given keynote addresses at international, regional, and state conferences.
