Baker School of Business: awards and publications
When they weren’t busy writing papers this semester, faculty in the Baker school of business were earning awards and publishing their research. Here’s a snapshot of their work:
Professor of Economics and Entrepreneurship Russell Sobel received the 2024 Faculty Excellence in Research Award.
Susan Wright, associate professor of accounting and dean of assessment, and Todd Drew, director of graduate and college transfer programs, were part of the group honored with the 2024 Provost’s Team of the Year Award.
Assistant Professor of Management Arpit Sharma, Associate Professor Susan Wright and Hipp Chair Stacey Nutt published An Immersive Learning Experience Utilizing Essential Technology in Accounting Education in The Journal of Business Cases and Applications. This case aims to create an immersive experience in Excel. Students use Excel cell referencing to complete the steps of the accounting cycle and create the main financial statements.
Assistant Professor of Finance Hussein Abdoh and Assistant Professor of Finance Michael Chitavi co-authored the article The Impact of Deviations from Soybean Product Crushing Estimates on Return and Risk, which was recently published by Agricultural Economics. The research shows that USDA estimates of soybean crushing impact the soybean derivative markets, underscoring their importance in risk management.
Associate Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship Antonina Bauman co-authored the book Group and Team Work, which was published by Edward Elgar Publishing in the Teaching Methods in Business series.
Associate Professor Susan Wright co-authored the article, A Data Analytics Case Study Analyzing IRS SOI Migration Data Using No-Code, Low-Code Technologies, which was published in The Journal of Accounting Education.
Professor of Economics Richard Ebeling published an opinion piece entitled Interventionism, not Capitalism, has Caused our Economic Problems in The Orange County Register, one of the leading California newspapers with a national online readership.
The International Journal of Leadership in Education accepted a paper co-written by Benjamin Dean, department head and associate professor of management, Tracey Sigler, department head and associate professor of leadership studies and Assistant Professor Arpit Sharma. The article is entitled Initiating and Leading a Grassroots Process of Organizational Change to Advance a University Mission.
Provost and Dean of the College Sally Selden; Michael R. Weeks, dean and Robert A. Jolley chair of business administration; Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship James Bezjian; Associate Professor Benjamin Dean; Associate Professor of Health and Human Performance Sarah Imam, M.D.; Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management Sergey Ponomarov; and Bob Riggle, department head and associate professor of marketing, co-authored the article Higher Education Response to Institutional Upheaval: Outcomes of Industry Collaborations During the COVID-19 Pandemic, which was published in the Journal of Industry and Higher Education.
The CASE Journal published a teaching case with an instructional manual written by Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship David Desplaces and Todd Drew, director of graduate and college transfer programs. The case is entitled Space Tourism: an Industry with a Future? and is designed for students to demonstrate their mastery of industry-level analysis in the emerging space tourism industry.
