Professor advances Citadel initiatives in South Korea
Assistant Professor of Sport Management Kwangho Park spent the summer in South Korea advancing initiatives supporting the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics and the Department of Health and Human Performance. “My primary goal was to enhance The Citadel’s global visibility and explore international academic and research collaboration opportunities,” said Park.
Park presented “Exploring the Adoption Dynamics of Virtual Reality in Spectator Sports” at the 9th International XR-Metaverse Conference hosted by the International Association of Immersive Technology Innovation in Busan, South Korea.
Additionally, Park gave nine guest lectures promoting the school of science and mathematics at three universities, three high schools, and three middle schools in South Korea and taught several seasonal activity classes, including a scuba diving course and a hiking and camping course at the Korean National Sport University.
“This university is known for training student-athletes who go on to win gold medals in international sports competitions, such as the Olympics,” said Park. “This inspired me to consider the idea of creating seasonal activity courses at The Citadel to help cadets develop practical skills and character.”
Park also established an individual partnership with the Korean Institute of Sport Science, where he is pursuing joint research projects on sport specific higher education institutions and national sport-related policies. “These initiatives provide opportunities to access national sports data and collaborate with international scholars in the field of sport management,” said Park. “This partnership is expected to yield valuable insights that will support my ongoing research, enhance my course content and contribute to the broader field of sports management.”
