Notes from Engineering
The School of Engineering hosted an AI, Algorithmic Integrity, and Autonomy Innovation Center middle school camp. It was funded by the National Science Foundation’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research grant project with Clemson University, an outreach to the state of South Carolina to broaden participation in engineering and computing.
Led by Assistant Professor Eva Singleton and co-taught with Assistant Professor Oguzhan Oruc, the middle school students learned about topics that empower and encourage them as STEM learners through a culturally responsive humanoid robotics curriculum.
Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Ron Hayne attended the national American Society for Engineering Education Conference and Exposition in Portland, Oregon. Hayne presented a paper entitled “Teaching Computer Architecture using VHDL Simulation and FPGA Prototyping to the Computers in Education Division.”
The Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering worked with the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium to host a SHORES: Strengthening Hope through Oceanfront and Resilience Coastal Engineers summer seminar, a two-day event focusing on environmental construction projects in the Lowcountry.
Additionally, the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering welcomed two new faculty members: Associate Professor Tess Doeffinger and Associate Professor Heath Kaufman.
