Cadet takes on Coast Guard Station Charleston
Cadet Lydia Larson, a junior majoring in political science and a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary University Program, completed 11 days of unscripted job-shadowing at Coast Guard Station Charleston following the end of her fall semester exams. Larson, who is also a member of the volleyball team, has had limited opportunities to work at the station because of volleyball conflicts. Determined to make the most of her furlough, she worked performing a mix of station operations, including shoreside training, marlinspike seamanship, and cleaning the station’s 29-footer. Larson was also involved in helo ops on Station 47 and spent time on the USCGC Kingfisher, participating in a number of drills, including a vessel-docking activity.
