Faculty and students attend disaster preparedness bootcamp
Swain Department of Nursing Professor and Department Head Kim Subasic, Simulation Lab Coordinator and Instructor Kaitlin Couture, Instructor of Health and Human Performance Lindsay Jackson and a group of three students attended a disaster preparedness training event hosted by the Consortium for Humanitarian Service and Education. The four-day event, which took place at the New York State Preparedness Training Center in Oriskany, New York, simulated various aspects of a disaster response. Students engaged in water rescue, wilderness search and rescue, urban rescue and a mass casualty scenario with simulations such as a community shooting, a train derailment rescue, and a casualty search in an imploded building with the use of drones.
This was the second year Subasic and Jackson participated. In 2023, they attended the bootcamp at the invitation of Clemson Turregano, ’83, who serves on the board of the consortium.
