The Citadel IT Department strongly recommends Dell computers for students due to our long-standing relationship with Dell’s warranty support team. We advise purchasing a Dell laptop with a ProSupport Plus warranty to ensure your device remains in top working condition for all four years at The Citadel. This warranty provides excellent coverage, including accidental damage protection and next-business-day service, minimizing downtime and keeping you focused on your studies.

While students are allowed to bring other brands, Dell laptops are preferred due to our ability to quickly assist with troubleshooting and warranty claims. Chromebooks are not recommended as they lack compatibility with many required academic applications. Additionally, students should select a computer that aligns with their major’s software requirements—engineering and business students, for example, may need more powerful systems than those in other disciplines.
