Undergraduate Students
A degree candidate at The Citadel Military college who wishes to receive Citadel credit for courses at another institution must complete the appropriate form located on the Forms page.
A Transient Permission Form must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar prior to taking courses at another college. This form is only required for current students or seniors completing their final courses for graduation at another institution. The Citadel does not approve these forms for individuals that are not current Citadel students and reserves the right to adjust course equivalencies as necessary.
To ensure that the course(s) will be accepted at The Citadel for transfer credit, students should review the Transfer Credit Policy prior to completing any outside course. Students should note that permission to take the requested course(s) is not confirmation of how/if the course(s) will fulfill degree requirements. Permission only confirms the course has been approved by Citadel faculty to have a Citadel equivalent.
Students should therefore pay close attention in verifying that the approved Citadel equivalent is what is needed on the students degree plan. The student should also confirm the course is not a repeat of already earned credit (see Transfer Credit Policy). Acceptance of credit for an approved transfer course via the Transient Permission Form will become final only when the Registrar’s office receives an official transcript of the student’s record directly from the accredited institution where the course was taken.
Prospective Transfer Students
Thank you for considering The Citadel! Students that have already completed courses from an accredited institution that would like for their courses to be evaluated for Citadel credit should have their official transcripts sent directly to The Citadel Registrar’s Office. All dual credit students will have a college transcript that can be requested. Credits will not be considered or evaluated until the official transcript has been received. Students interested in seeing what future or completed courses may transfer to the Citadel, and their associated equivalencies should refer to the Resources for Transferring Courses section below. Unofficial transcripts, hand delivered transcripts, or grade reports will not be accepted. Transcripts must come directly from the originating institution.
Official Mailed transcripts may be sent to:
Office of the Registrar
171 Moultrie Street
Charleston, SC 29409-0205
Official electronic transcripts may be sent to:

Graduate Students
The Citadel Graduate College does permit up to 12 hours of transfer credit from other accredited higher education institutions, and from military education and training that is recommended for credit by the American Council on Education. Some programs allow fewer hours of transfer credit. Students should check the requirements for specific programs for the maximum number of credit hours that may be transferred into his or her program at The Citadel.
Graduate students wanting graduate credit to be considered must complete the appropriate form. Students should make sure their official transcripts have been received by The Citadel prior to completing the graduate Transfer Credit Approval form .
Students should also review the Transfer Credit Policy and/or their academic catalog for full details. Credits will not be considered or evaluated until the official transcript has been received. Unofficial transcripts, hand delivered transcripts, or grade reports will not be accepted. Transcripts must come directly from the originating institution.

Resources for Transferring Courses
Students who have taken or are thinking about taking courses at another institution should utilize the website www.collegetransfer.net (please click direct link for full user friendly webpage). This tool allows students to search for course equivalencies at colleges and universities both inside and outside of the state of South Carolina.
Courses with Citadel equivalents listed on www.collegetransfer.net or either widget below do not require department approval on the Transient Permission Form. If the course is not pre-approved for transfer, then you must obtain a copy of the originating college’s course description (found in their school’s course catalog) and get it approved by the appropriate department head here at The Citadel. This form must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office for final approval. You will be given a copy to keep and/or submit to the other college/university.
The South Carolina Transfer and Articulation Center (SC TRAC) is another resource that helps students transfer between South Carolina colleges and universities: www.sctrac.org or mobile app Academic GPS.
