Commissioning Opportunities in all Branches of the Armed Services
Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) is a leadership training and development program that prepares full-time, college-enrolled students for the opportunity to commission in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force.
ROTC Requirements
At The Citadel, ROTC classes are mandatory for the first two years. Cadets interested in receiving a commission will continue ROTC classes for all four years. All others will take leadership classes in their last two years at the Citadel.
The Citadel accepts national three and four-year ROTC scholarships
What it covers:
- College Tuition & Fees
- Monthly Living Expense Stipend
- Annual Book Stipend
- Uniform (Exclusive to ROTC Programs)

Please note that The Citadel ROTC department does not award ROTC Scholarships. Scholarships for the Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy are administered directly through the awarding military branch.
The Citadel Service to Country Scholarship and National Service Scholarship
The Citadel Service to Country Tuition Scholarship and National Service Room/Board Scholarship are awarded to three and four-year ROTC national scholarship high school student awardees chosen through the national review process managed by the Army, Navy, Marines, and AirForce/SpaceForce. The scholarships support students awarded a national ROTC scholarship through the national board processes described in the links below on each branch’s website. The award must be awarded prior to May 1, 2024.
ROTC Fitness Requirements
The Citadel ROTC departments adhere to U.S. Military standard fitness tests. These fitness tests include sit-ups, push-ups and cardio tests. The performance requirements vary between departments.
If you are the recipient of a 3 or 4-year ROTC Scholarship, you are guaranteed admission into the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.
