As one of your cadet’s primary advisors, you play a key role in the success your cadet will have as a member of The South Carolina Corps of Cadets. We respect this responsibility and want to assist you providing effective guidance that the cadet can use to make good decisions. Providing informed guidance requires an understanding of the institution and information on the cadet experience at The Citadel.
Studies show that a college student’s level of performance is significantly higher when their parents and family members engage in an informed way. First and foremost, that means listening to their concerns, reminding them that you have confidence that they can navigate their challenges and then providing them with encouragement to use the system The Citadel has designed to support their education and experience. It is important at this point in their lives that they process the information and advice, then make a decision and deal with the consequences themselves – good or bad.
We hope you will join us on The Citadel’s Parent and Family Portal where you will find interesting articles and tips for navigating life as an advisor to your cadet. It is open to all family members and friends of our cadets. The information on this webpage does not change very often, so the Portal is where you want to be for the latest information.

During its annual Parents' Day weekend, The Citadel invited friends and families of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets to campus.
Cadets Michael and Robert Hart are twin brothers from the Class of 2025. Their family legacy is linked to their father, John "Jay" Hart Jr., a member of The Citadel’s Class of 1992. As his sons honor his memory and continue the tradition, his Citadel ring, engraved with ‘92, now holds even greater significance.
The Citadel will welcome the family and friends of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets to campus during the college’s annual Parents’ Weekend celebrations on Friday, Sept. 27 – Sunday, Sept. 29.
