The Citadel supports students by providing a Federal 1098-T form to persons with qualifying education expenses during the prior calendar year. The IRS 1098-T Tax forms are made available by January 31st following the end of the prior tax year. (Example Tax Year 2023 would be available January 31, 2024) The 1098-T form is necessary for persons who wish to take Education Tax Credits. Notes to Remember
The IRS 1098-T forms will be available electronically (if consent is received) or sent to a student’s home address before January 31. You may view your 1098-T online by following the steps below:
- Login to My Citadel Portal and find the Student Business Services card. Select “Make a Payment and Review Billing Information”.
- In the menu on the left, select “Tax Forms”.
- Note- if you no longer have access to My Citadel Portal and do not have the paper copy sent by mail, contact the Treasurer’s Office at 843-953-5254.
Please note that The Citadel will only report dollar amounts paid for QUALIFIED EXPENSES during the prior calendar year.

To download a replacement 1098-T form for the years 2015-2021, follow these steps:
- Go to the Heartland ECSI website (https://heartland.ecsi.net)
- Click on the link “To access your 1098-T form, click here.”
- Next search for “The Citadel” and press submit
- Type in your student’s First and Last Name, Social Security Number and Home Zip code, press continue
- The next page will populate your 1098-T, click on the + sign to view
